Nihei Koji
In 1896, Asakichi Nihei founded Nihei Koji and currently the company is managed by the 4th president.They produce and sellmiso in addition to koji. In the past, there were many koji shops in the center of town.
The store of Nihei Koji faces the old Oshu Road and the main house is located behind the store. The structure was built in 1858 and has remained as a traditional townhouse architecture building of Shirakawa for more than 150 years. The buildings are designed in the kiritsumaand hirairi styles and are adorned with latticed windows. The dirt floor is integrated with the shop area. This structure includes the room reserved for Koji production as well as the residential area and conveys the style and atmosphere of the Edo period.
Designated as a Historically Scenic Landmark by Shirakawa City on July 21st, 2011.
